selenak: Now that you've allowed me a first look at the Fredersdorf letters - he also writes "if you'd been there [at Soor], nothing would have been taken, which, what? He can't mean Fredersdorf would have fought off Austrian Trenck and his Pandurs singlehandedly? Does he mean Fredersdorf would have managed to hide everything in time?
mildred_of_midgard: Remember at Soor when Fritz writes to Fredersdorf, "If you were here, none of this would have happened"? Upon reflection, that line makes me think that Fredersdorf was at least at one point in the field with Fritz. 1741 seems the likeliest.
Furthermore, I wonder if something happened at some point where Fredersdorf had a moment of quiet organizational glory that only Fritz appreciated. It doesn't need to have been a battle, any Pandur raid would do. (Mimi's unsung exploits remain lost to the pages of history and are left as an exercise for the reader, or the writer of crack fic.)
selenak: Though I sympathize also with whoever was in charge of keeping both Mimi and the dogs happy!
mildred_of_midgard: I hope they were separate people! At least at times, they must have been, because Fritz took his dogs on campaign with him, and surely didn't take Mimi or we would have anecdotes. "And then there was the time Mimi fought off the Pandurs single-handedly..." :-P
What I think would make [a greeeeeeat] title, if this fic ever gets written, is "The Unsung Heroics of Mimi the Monkey." :P
I've just decided they're unsung because the pandurs don't want to admit they were defeated by a monkey, and the Prussians don't want to admit they were protected by a monkey, and so everyone agrees IT NEVER HAPPENED. :D
